Chapter 119

א ואידך שרי ואיכא דאמרי אמר רב פפא עד הברזא חמרא אסיר ואידך שרי
1 and the remainder is permitted. There are those who say: R. Papa said: The wine above the stopper is prohibited and the remainder is permitted.
ב אמר רב יימר כתנאי חבית שנקבה בין מפיה בין משוליה ובין מצידיה ונגע בו טבול יום טמאה רבי יהודה אומר מפיה ומשוליה טמאה מצידיה טהורה מכאן ומכאן
2 R. Yemar said: [This is] like the [dispute of the] following tannaim: If a jug was pierced whether on top, the bottom or its sides, and a tevul yom touched it, it is defiled. R. Judah says: [If it was pierced] on top or bottom it is impure, but if on its sides it is pure on this side and that.
ג אמר רב פפא עובד כוכבים אדנא וישראל אכובא חמרא אסיר מ"ט כי קאתי מכח עובד כוכבים קאתי ישראל אדנא ועובד כוכבים אכובא חמרא שרי ואי מצדד צדודי אסיר
3 R. Papa said: If a non-Jew [was holding] the barrel and a Jew the cask, the wine is prohibited. What is the reason? Because [the pouring] results from the effort of the non-Jew. If, however, a Jew [was holding] the barrel and a non-Jew the cask, the wine is permitted; but should [the non-Jew] tilt it sideways it is prohibited.
ד אמר רב פפא האי עובד כוכבים דדרי זיקא וקאזיל ישראל אחוריה מליא שרי דלא מקרקש חסירא אסיר דלמא מקרקש כובא מליא אסיר דלמא נגע חסירא שרי דלא נגע
4 R. Papa said: If a non-Jew carries a skin-bottle [of wine] and a Jew follows behind him, if it is full it is permitted because [the wine] does not shake, but if it is not full it is prohibited because there is the possibility of shaking. A full cask [being carried in such a manner], is prohibited because he might have touched it, but if it is not full it is permitted because he did not touch it.
ה רב אשי אמר זיקא בין מליא ובין חסירא שרי מ"ט אין דרך ניסוך בכך
5 R. Ashi said: In the case of a skin-bottle, whether full or not it is permitted. What is the reason? Because this is not the way of offering a libation.
ו מעצרא זיירא רב פפי שרי רב אשי ואיתימא רב שימי בר אשי אסר
6 [Wine] from a press where beams are used: R. Papi permits; R. Ashi, or according to another version, R. Shimi b. Ashi prohibits.
ז בכחו כולי עלמא לא פליגי דאסיר כי פליגי בכח כחו איכא דאמרי בכח כחו כולי עלמא לא פליגי דשרי כי פליגי בכחו הוה עובדא בכח כחו ואסר רב יעקב מנהר פקוד
7 In the case of direct force no on disagree that it is prohibited, they disagree where there was indirect force. Others say that they do not disagree in the case of indirect force that it is permitted, they disagree only in a case of direct force. An instance of indirect force occurred and R. Jacob of Nehar-Pekod prohibited it.
